Cook expects Wilson to remain at Bournemouth

Bournemouth defender Steve Cooke does not expect his team-mate Callum Wilson to leave the club this month.

“I have been here a long, long time now so I have seen players come and go and be linked with clubs,” he told the Express.

“That is natural because we have done ever so well and if Callum keeps scoring the goals I am sure it is going to be a tough thing to keep hold of him.

“But I can’t remember the last player we sold that was a big part of the gaffer’s plans so that says all we need to know.

Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez was giving nothing away about his transfer plans during a recent interview with the Chronicle.

Amid rumours that owner Mike Ashley is considering taking the club off the market and investing more money into his squad Benitez said: “I will not talk [about whether we're close to any new signings].”

“I will just keep working and get the best from these players. My idea is... you know what my idea is, but we have to concentrate on what we have.”

The defender has fallen out of favour at the Vitality and has made just five Premier League appearances for the Cherries, four of which have come from the bench.

Palmieri deal could lessen Higuain cost

The Daily Star are reporting that any deal for Chelsea to sign Gonzalo Higuain could be impacted on by Juventus’ pursuit of Emerson Palmieri.

They claim the initial loan deal to bring the striker to Stamford Bridge is expected to be around £9m ($12m), but should the Blues wish to sign him permanent next summer they might have to fork out as much as £35m ($45m).

However, given Juve’s interest in Palmieri, a deal for the Brazilian could lessen the cost for Chelsea to sign Higuain.

Should Maurizio Sarri allow Palmieri to leave, he is believed to be valued around £15m ($19m).
