Leon Balogun injured in Mainz 05's defeat

The Nigeria international could not complete the full duration in O-Fives' loss to the Royal Blues after picking up an injury

Leon Balogun was injured in Mainz 05 2-0 defeat to Schalke 04 on Friday in the German Bundesliga encounter.

The defender was replaced in the 79th minute by Kenan Kodro due to a 'suspected cheek bone fracture'.

Goals from Leon Goretzka and Austria international, Guido Burgstaller secured the maximum points for the Royal Blues in the clash.

The former Fortuna Düsseldorf player has featured in four league matches this season to help Sandro Schwarz’s side to the 11th spot in the log having gathered ten points from nine games.

The duration of the injury is yet to be ascertained as the defender joins Chelsea's Victor Moses on the sidelines, with the wide man ruled out of action for a month due to an hamstring problem he picked last week.

It is yet to be seen if both players will be available for Nigeria's last game in World Cup 2018 qualifying series against Algeria. The Super Eagles booked their spot in Russia already and Gernot Rohr will have to little to worry over the inclusion of two of his key men.
