Sarpong was handed a sack letter from the Porcupines management on Friday, according to Kumasi-based Oyerepa FM.
A police report said he fired several shots near his car following a mob attack on him and his colleague. Both men sustained light injuries and were taken to the hospital.
However, Sarpong was suspended from all football-related activities for six months by the Disciplinary Committee of Ghana Football Association (GFA) for wrongful use of a firearm.
Kotoko will host Medeama on Sunday in Zone A’s top of the table clash in the GFA Special Competition.
