KFC Moment of the Day 1

England won a tournament penalty shootout for the first time in their history after Eric Dier slotted away the winning spot-kick in a 4-3 win.

Gareth Southgate's side went into the shoot-out after a tense 1-1 draw with Jose Pekerman's team, and the weight of history was evident as players and coaches assembled prior to the shoot-out.

England have had many great players over the years. Bobby Charlton, Alan Shearer, Gary Lineker, David Beckham, Paul Scholes; the list goes on and on, but none of them ever did what this side has done.

None of them ever won a penalty shoot-out at the World Cup. Yerry Mina’s 93rd minute header cancelled out Harry Kane’s opener – which also came from the spot – to take the game to extra time as the nerves grew and the shootout loomed.

So, the moment of the day has to be Dier's winning spot kick at the very end and how the whole England team celebrated this unique achievement for the country.

KFC Moment of the Day 2

Sweden reached the quarter-finals for the first time since 1994 after a deflected goal from Emil Forsberg clinched a 1-0 win over Switzerland.

The first meeting between the nations at a major tournament simmered in the St Petersburg sunshine until Forsberg's fortunate strike handed Sweden a crucial lead.

The RB Leipzig playmaker's tame 66th-minute effort was heading straight at Yann Sommer until Switzerland defender Manuel Akanji stuck out a foot, sending the ball looping beyond his wrong-footed goalkeeper. That was our second moment of the day, as it was the difference between the two teams in this last 16 encounter.

Sweden's route to the quarters has not been easy. They saw off both the Netherlands and Italy in qualifying, before finishing above Germany and Mexico in Group F.

Next up for Sweden is a clash against England in Samara on Saturday.
