Kaizer Chiefs football manager Bobby Motaung has confirmed that the club will announce the signing of a new goalkeeper in the near future.
Motaung said the announcement was imminent as the team gears up for their pre-season training which started today [Monday].
Amakhosi lost Brilliant Khuzwayo for free at the end of last season after the Umlazi-born shot-stopper grew frustrated with his lack of game of time at the club.
While the Soweto giants have two other young goalkeepers apart from Itumeleng Khune, Motaung said they saw the need to bring in someone with a bit of experience.
Khune has been the club's No.1 since making his competitive debut over a decade ago, and it has been difficult for any of the goalkeepers who came after him to cement their places in the team.
"We have a goalkeeper that we will announce soon - hopefully this afternoon [Monday]. We’ll announce a goalkeeper that we have acquired to back up Itu [Khune], but we still have [Bruce] Bvuma there,” Motaung told the media on Monday.
“They [Brylon Petersen and Bvuma] are young keepers, but we needed someone seasoned, who can back Itu up. A bit of a matured goalkeeper. So, we are definitely going to make an announcement today,” added Motaung.
Oscarine Masuluke tried his luck with the Glamour Boys soon after it became public that Khuzwayo would not be renewing his contract with the 2014/15 PSL champions.
However, the club decided against signing him, and the lanky goalkeeper moved on.
Several goalkeepers, including Reyaad Pieterse among others, have already been linked to Chiefs, but Motaung played his cards close to his chest on who their new goalkeeper will be.
