Kaizer Chiefs could replace goalkeeper Khuzwayo with Sundowns shot-stopper Ngobeni

Kaizer Chiefs are areportedly still pondering the possibility of letting Brilliant Khuzwayo leave the Naturena-based club.

The towering goalkeeeper, whose Chiefs set to expire at the end of the current season, has attracted strong interest from Cape Town City ahead of the January, 2018 Transfer Window.

The Citizen source has disclosed that Chiefs have started looking at other options should Khuzwayo, 27, decide against extending his deal with Amakhosi.

“They know they are likely to lose him for free as his contract will be running out in just a year from now. So they know they need to cash in on him now," the source said.

Chiefs would be open to re-signing Mamelodi Sundowns shot-stopper Thela Ngobeni, who is reportedly keen to leave the Brazilians due to lack of game time.

“I have heard they are targeting their former keeper Thela Ngobeni should Sundowns release him and if they can get him to be the second choice behind Itu (Khune), then they can easily release Khuzwayo,” the source concluded.

Ngobeni, 28, joined Sundowns midway through the 2012/13 season and he is yet to establish himself at the Tshwane giants.

The Kaizer Chiefs academy graduate spent last season on loan at Free State Stars where he made 25 PSL appearances.

He parted ways with Amakhosi in 2012.
