‘It’s not me who’s talking’ – Pogba fed up with Man Utd transfer speculation

Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba says that he is tired of transfer rumours linking him with a move away from Old Trafford.

A target for Barcelona in the summer, the World Cup winner seemed to add fuel to the fire when he was quoted saying by Sky Sports Germany on Thursday as saying “who knows what will happen in the near future”.

Pogba, however, is insistent that he does not see himself anywhere other than with the Red Devils, despite reports of a rift between him and manager Jose Mourinho.

“It's not me who's talking,” he said.

“I'm trying to work on myself physically. I got back late from the World Cup, so I'm trying to perform as well as possible.

“I'm just trying to do my job and for the rest there'll always be talk.”

The 25-year-old has been an ever-present in the headlines since moving back to United from Juventus in the summer of 2016 but his performances have come under particular scrutiny in recent times.

Club legend Peter Schmeichel has questioned his mentality, while former England striker Ian Wright has suggested that winning the World Cup in the summer will only enhance the player’s ego, potentially harming his tempestuous relationship with his manager still further.

He was in action on Thursday with France, with whom he turned in a relatively uneventful performance as they played out a 0-0 Nations League draw with Germany in Munich.

On Sunday he is again expected to turn out for Les Bleus when they return to competitive action for the first time on home soil following Russia 2018 with a home match against the Netherlands.

From there, Pogba will return back to United, who have won only two of their opening four Premier League fixtures of the season. A match against Watford away from home awaits before a trip to face Swiss outfit Young Boys in the Champions League.

Pogba has captained the Red Devils in their competitive games this season, though he missed a penalty as they defeated Burnley at Turf Moor immediately before the international break.
