‘It’s like a fresh start for me’ - Swansea City's Abraham hoping to shine in Bony’s absence

Tammy Abraham has described his goalscoring return as a ‘fresh start’.

The Swansea City striker ended a run of 14-game goal drought as he bagged a brace in their 8-1 victory over Notts County in an FA Cup fourth-round replay clash on Tuesday.

And with Wilfried Bony’s season-ending injury making him a more prominent figure in Carlos Carvalhal’s setup, the 20-year-old sees the Cote d’Ivoire international’s loss as his own gain.

“I’m a bubbly person, like he is, and I always want to work hard and do my best,” Abraham told The Mirror.

“It’s like a fresh start for me. I’m not a person who lacks confidence, I always believe in myself and when I get the chance I like to take it. Wilfried Bony’s injury is sad, but sometimes these things happen and give you the chance to step up.”

Prior to Tuesday’s encounter, coach Carvalhal implored the Anglo-Nigerian to emulate Cristiano Ronaldo’s drive and discipline. And the striker has lauded the impact of the gaffer on the entire squad.

“He’s motivated the players and lifted the whole atmosphere,” he added.

Abraham has now scored seven goals for Swansea who are yet to lose in their previous eight games.

The resurgent south Wales outfit, placed 17th in the top-flight log, will be looking to stretch that run against Burnley in Saturday’s English Premier League encounter as they continue to pull away from the relegation zone.
