Islam Slimani set for Newcastle United debut vs. Manchester United

Islam Slimani is set to make his Newcastle United debut against Manchester United in Sunday’s English Premier League outing at the St. James' Park.

The 29-year-old joined the Magpies on loan from Leicester City till the end of the season on transfer deadline day but has been unable to make his maiden appearance owing to an injury.

The former Sporting CP player suffered a thigh muscle strain in training at Leicester on January 30 but on Wednesday, the forward trained with rest of the team in preparation for their encounter with Jose Mourinho’s men and manager, Rafael Benitez is hoping that the attacker would be available for the clash.

“It will be a big boost to have Islam available,” Benitez told Daily Star.

“He’s someone we’ve been tracking for a while and he will give us a different option going forward.”

Slimani has scored five goals in 17 outings in all competitions this season before his departure from the King Power Stadium.
