Islam Slimani eyes permanent Newcastle United stay

Islam Slimani is eyeing a permanent Newcastle United deal after the completion of his current loan spell at the club.

The Algeria international joined the Magpies on transfer deadline day till the end of the season from Leicester City.

And, although, the former Sporting CP player is yet to take to the field for Rafael Benitez’s men, he is already looking forward to making his deal permanent.

"Yes, yes. I'm just on loan at the minute, but if I could stay here, I'd be very happy, so let's see how it goes,” Slimani told Sky Sports.

"The big difference is that he [Benitez] trusts me and when you have the trust of your coach, that's very important.

"They trusted me at Leicester, it's not that I wasn't trusted. I started well, but then I was dogged by bad health and injuries."

Before Slimani departed the King Power Stadium, he scored five goals in 17 outings for the club in all competitions this season.

The striker will be hoping to make his bow for Newcastle when they welcome Manchester United to St James' Park on Sunday after training with the side for the first time on Wednesday.
