ISL 2018-19: Mumbai City's Jorge Costa - Fortunate that my team is aggressive

The Portuguese was pleased that side have won three consecutive matches...

A Champions League winner with FC Porto under Jose Mourinho, Mumbai City’s head coach Jorge Costa probably has a template ready when he’s asked about the Manchester United manager's influence on his coaching. The Portuguese believes that he is forging his own path.

“I had an opportunity to play under a lot of coaches at a high level. I also learned from some coaches about what not to do in football. The story finishes here. I am not a copy of anyone.”

His Indian Super League (ISL) side Mumbai City FC picked up a vital 1-0 away win at NorthEast United that saw the  Islanders  jump into the top four places on Friday in Guwahati.

However, four Mumbai City players made it to the referee's book against the Highlanders and questions about Mumbai being a bit too physical floated around.

“I don’t think we were extra hard in our tackles. This is football, not ballet. You need to be aggressive and I’m fortunate that my team is.”

The 47-year-old praised his defence but believed that NorthEast United could not conjure as many chances as Mumbai did and the visitors could have put the game to bed a lot earlier had the players converted better.

“I don’t think they had many chances to score in the first half. They should be bothered about this. I think we had much more chances than them. In the first five minutes of the second half, we had three clear chances to score.

"I’m very happy with the defence. I’m happy with my offence too but I think that we could have finished the game much earlier had we converted.

“I cannot speak about referees. I respect my job, my players and everyone that works in football. They are doing their best," he concluded.
