ISL 2017-18: FC Goa's Sergio Lobera: Football has been unjust to us

At the Fatorda Stadium on Thursday evening, FC Goa bowed down to Chennaiyin FC in a 0-1 result. The loss keeps the Gaurs in the sixth position in the league standings with 20 points in 14 matches.

Speaking of the result on home soil, head coach Sergio Lobera believed the full-time scoreline was unfair to his side. Further, he admitted that the hosts struggled to bounce back after conceding in the 52nd minute.

‘’I sincerely think we deserved a lot more today. Football has been unjust to us. Even when we lost (2-0 against Bengaluru FC) last week, it was unjust. The team did everything they could in the second half but couldn't find the equaliser. We had a lot of opportunities on goal, some very clear ones, but they didn't go in,’’ he commented.

In the 81st minute of the match, Goa player Manuel Lanzarote picked up his fourth yellow card of the season and he will now miss the next game. Unhappy with the Spaniard’s gesture, Lobera expressed, ‘’A player (Manuel Lanzarote) who had gotten three yellow cards, shouldn't have got himself booked for talking to the referee. It was a big error on the player's part. We shouldn't be losing players for stupid reasons like this. Obviously now we need to make changes after the training to pick the 11 who can give us the best performance against Delhi (Dynamos).’’

The Gaurs started the season in full force but dropped points midway. With just one point to boast out of a potential 12 in the last four, the gaffer believes the upcoming matches will be nothing less than a finale for them.

‘’After the points that we have accumulated in the past four games, we still continue to depend on ourselves. We have five points less than Jamshedpur with one game in hand and we have to play against them as well, but this is obviously the last opportunity. We cannot make any more mistakes. The four games which remain are four finals for us,’’ he concluded.
