Ghana international Kasim Nuhu Adams is unlikely to play again until October after picking up an injury while in club action on Saturday.

The TSG Hoffenheim centre-back upset his ankle in his club's Bundesliga clash with Freiburg, leading to his substitution one minute to half-time.

The news was not just a major setback to Die Kraichgauer but also for Ghana who had named him in their 21-man squad for an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Kenya on September 8.

"TSG Hoffenheim will be without defensive players Kasim Adams and Kevin Akpoguma in the next few weeks," Hoffenheim announced via their official website.

"Immediately before the half-time whistle on this unusual afternoon, Kasim Adams got injured and had to leave the field.

"After an unfortunate duel in midfield, the 23-year-old Ghanaian international was initially treated on the pitch, but then had to be taken off to the hospital for examination.

"There were diagnosed injuries to the ligaments of the ankle and the ankle.

"The newcomer from Bern will not only be missing from TSG, but has also renounced a trip to the [Ghana] national team."

Adams is likely to miss matches against Fortuna Dusseldorf, Borussia Dortmund, Hannover 96 and RB Leipzig this month.

The centre-back is also expected to miss the Uefa Champions League clash with Shakhtar Donetsk on September 19.

He joined Hoffenheim from Swiss side Young Boys in July.
