India coach Stephen Constantine - 'There is talent in India. All it needs is finding them'

The Englishman speaks on what is in store for the India U23 team after their two-game series against Singapore U23s...

Indian coach Stephen Constantine feels that India has an abundance of footballing talent and all it needs is proper scouting and coaching to unearth them.

The 54-year-old Brit was speaking to Goal after India U23 team's 1-0 loss to Singapore U23s in Singapore on Wednesday.

Though he was not happy after the loss, he assessed, "They'll make mistakes and many don't have club teams to play for. When we consider that, they've given a decent account of themselves in both these games. Four of them we took from a scouting program six weeks ago. There is talent in India and all it needs is finding them and nurturing them."

India had earlier won the first game on July 9th and last night's defeat meant the series is tied 1-1. However, Constantine is encouraged by what he has seen from the young team ahead of the AFC U23 Championship in Qatar later this year.

"We are a fairly young team and a new team. We've lost one and won one against Singapore. We will probably be the underdogs going into the tournament, but the boys are fighters," he expressed.

"It's a very difficult group with Syria, hosts Qatar and Turkmenistan. We will have to do a lot more against those three teams. But we will give the best account of ourselves and we will fight," he added further.

Constantine went on to point out that his main objective was to ensure the senior team gets several good players from the U23 team after the tournament in Qatar. He professed, "My personal objective is to qualify to the knockout stages but the main objective is to produce one, two or three players for the senior team."
