Dwyer's exploits have resonated with the former NBA star, who sent a message of support for the striker that was relayed by the U.S. Soccer Twitter account.

"He's on fire man. That's my guy," Bryant said of Dwyer.

"I'm excited for his call to the USA, and I'm looking forward for him to continue to do big things. I'm a big Dom fan.

Dwyer, who was born in England, gained his U.S. citizenship in March, paving the way for his first U.S. call-up last month.
