I was scared when goals weren't coming, says Isale Eko's Balogun

Isale Eko Grammar School’s Rasheed Balogun reveals that his side’s aim is to emerge champions of this year’s GTBank Principals Cup tournament.

The Lagos Island girls progressed to the semi-final of the championship after edging Euba Senior Secondary School 3-2 on penalties after the full time ended 0-0, and the handler says he glad they made through to the last four stage of the tourney despite the scare their opponent gave them during regulation period.

"We competed in this tournament last year and we came fourth, and since then, we have been preparing all year-round towards becoming the winner in this year's edition, and we are glad we are getting closer to our goal," Balogun told Goal.

"During the match, we were a little scared but being the role model of the team, I had to compose myself and I was glad that we won.”

Balogun also disclosed that he decided to introduced his second goalkeeper for the penalty kicks because she had shown so much potential during training and she ended up saving her side from crashing out of the competition in the last eight stage on Wednesday.

"Of course yes, in football, anything can happen, we thought about it that in the quarterfinals to play draw, that was why we were training penalties, but in training, the other keeper I introduced later in the game has been doing well.

"Today, we've seen our flaws and we are will make sure we correct those mistakes also prepare strongly for the semi-finals. Our aim is to emerge winners at the end of the competition.”
