Quincy Promes has been heavily linked with a move to Liverpool, but the Spartak Moscow winger insists he has “never thought about other clubs”.
The Netherlands international was reported to be a target for Jurgen Klopp as he sought cover for Sadio Mane during the Africa Cup of Nations.
Several options are said to have been considered by the Reds, but they have been left frustrated in their pursuit of creative reinforcements.
The likes of Julian Draxler, Christian Pulisic and Julian Brandt have either moved elsewhere or committed to their current clubs, with Liverpool constantly having to switch their focus.
Promes is not about to offer them a glimmer of hope either, with the 25-year-old intending to remain in Russia for the foreseeable future.
He told Sport Express: “I never thought about other clubs. Never. Some things were said, but I do not know about that.
“I just know that I play for Spartak, and people who really know me understand this.”
Promes admits international team-mate Georginio Wijnaldum has expressed a desire to see him arrive at Anfield, but the former Twente midfielder is adamant that a transfer has never crossed his mind.
He added: “Yes, he says he wants me [at Liverpool], because he likes me as a player. That’s what he said.
“I talked with him, of course. But it wasn’t about Liverpool. We’re just friends.
“I repeat: everyone who knows me understands what I think, and fans of Spartak know and remember what I said.
“So I do not understand why this issue is discussed at all.”
