Players have a choice to make in this transfer window – whether to ply their trade in the I-League or go into the draft for the Indian Super League (ISL). However, in some cases, the monetary benefits are way too big to ignore.
I-League and Federation Cup runners-up, Mohun Bagan have shown a strong interest in retaining striker Balwant Singh after he recuperated from an injury and notched up four goals in 815 minutes.
The 30-year-old is a decorated player having won the ISL, I-League and Federation Cup in the less than a decade of a professional career.
Meanwhile, Ashutosh Mehta who played an important role in Aizawl FC’s maiden title triumph last season, too has been wooed by the Mariners. He also featured in the ISL for Mumbai City FC where he made for a mere 195 minutes.
The versatile player who can slot into midfield and full-back positions is also on the radar of East Bengal where Khalid Jamil is at the helm of affairs.
It will be interesting to see if the two players decide to play for Mohun Bagan instead of being part of the ISL draft.
