‘He has done very well’ - Steve Bruce on Tammy Abraham's Aston Villa debut

Tammy Abraham ‘has done very well’ but ‘could have scored three’ on his debut against Blackburn Rovers, says Aston Villa coach Steve Bruce.

The season-long loan signing from Chelsea made his first appearance in a Villa shirt, with Bruce preferring the 20-year-old to Jonathan Kodija - who would later come in to combine with the youngster for his best chance of the game.

Conor Hourihane's stoppage-time free-kick rescued a point for the visitors at Ewood Park but the gaffer insists that, despite not scoring, Abraham did well and is set for an ‘important’ role in his set-up.

“Abraham, on another day, could have scored three, couldn't he?” Bruce said.

“He's going to be a very good player for us – an important one.

“He's shattered in that dressing room because he probably hasn't played 90 minutes in months.

“Considering all that, he's done very well.”

Abraham will have another go when Villa play Rotherham United in Tuesday’s Championship clash.
