Harambee Starlets needed a penalty to edge out Women Premier League Select Side 1-0 in a friendly match as part of Kenya’s preparation for the forthcoming Awcon championship finals in Ghana.

Mercy Achieng scored the lone goal from the spot after a goalkeeping mishap by Samantha Akinyi that left the referee with no option but point at the spot.

The buildup match came barely three days after David Ouma side had hit camp as the team intensifies preparation for the November games. All players have so far checked in, save for Esse Akida and Pauline Atieno who are set to check report to camp in the course of the week.

The team will play two more friendly matches against Uganda and Ghana before departing for Ghana on November 14, 2018, in time for the continental showpiece set to be held between November 17, and December 1, 2018.

Kenya will kick off her group B campaign against Zambian on November 18 before tackling South Africa three days later with the final group match against defending champions, Nigeria on November 24.
