Government set a side Sh700M for Nyayo renovation

Nyayo Stadium will be ready to host Kenyan Premier League matches from April 2018.

Deputy President William Ruto says the government has set aside Sh700million for the renovation of Kenya’s second biggest stadium.

Work at Nyayo stalled after Chan Championship was taken off the hands of Kenya last August. Ruto said that the renovation work is expected to be completed in the first quarter of the new year, just two months into the new football season.

"Work at Nyayo Stadium is set to commence soon. We have set aside Sh700m for the exercise and we are confident the venue will be ready for use again at the start of April," Ruto said after hosting Harambee Stars to a luncheon on Tuesday.

Ruto also revealed that the national government will work closely with the county governments to renovate other satellite stadia all across the county.

Ruto added that the government has set aside Sh300m for renovation works at Mombasa and Moi Stadium in Kisumu though the commencement of the work on the ground has delayed due to ‘logistical problems’.
