Gor Mahia in dilemma as foreign quota rule is yet to be solved

Gor Mahia are most likely to offload either Francis Mustapha or Ephrem Guikan before the start of the season.

K’Ogalo currently have six foreign players in their squad, one more above the recommended KPL quota rule. But the return of Guikan to the squad after the Ivorian shelved his decision to quit the club, has now thrown the office into a state of confusion ahead of the transfer deadline day in January.

Gor Mahia have already submitted the name of Mustapha to Caf ahead of the Caf Champions League action set to kick-off on Wednesday with the first round of preliminary match against Nyasa Big Bullets.

The acquisition of Ugandan forward, Erisa Ssekisambu, who is also in the Caf list, did not make things any better for the Kenyan champions, who must now offload one player among the list of six foreigners in order to comply with the KPL standards.

The list also has Shafik Batambuze (Uganda), Jacques Tuyisenge (Rwanda), and Karim Nizigiyimana (Burundi). Already Tuyisenge has been linked with a move to either TP Mazembe of Congo or Mamelodi Sundowns in South Africa.

K’Ogalo CEO Omondi Aduda could not give an express answer when asked on the way forward. “That’s not a priority right now. We know what we are doing. That’s not a story,” Aduda told Goal.com.

Club chairman Ambrose Rachier, however, said that they will find a solution ‘soon’. “We know that we have six foreign players, but that’s something we will sit down and look into to so as to comply with the KPL rule.”

But Goal now understands that Gor Mahia are considering a loan deal for Guikan, a safe way to cover their striking department should Tuyisenge leave.
