'Gomes can give us something different' - on-loan Barcelona midfielder backed by Everton boss Silva

Everton boss Marco Silva is excited by the fact Andre Gomes is ready to play and expects him to add a new dynamic at Goodison Park.

The Portuguese midfielder joined Everton on a season-long loan move from Barcelona before the close of the summer transfer window, but injury has delayed his chance to make an impact.

He finally made his Everton debut last weekend against Crystal Palace and impressed in the 2-0 win on what was his first appearance since April 17.

“Andre is working really hard and really well,” said Silva.

"He can give us different things.”

Gomes was one of La Liga's most promising midfielders during his time at Valencia, prompting a transfer to Barcelona in 2016. Unfortunately, his move to Camp Nou did not work out as planned, but Silva is still confident of unlocking his quality at Everton.

“I know about Andre’s quality and what he can do in each moment of the game," Silva told  E vertonTV .

“He has quality on the ball and understands the game. He is enjoying playing for us and training every day.”

Silva believes that there is plenty more to come from Gomes once he is back to full fitness following the hamstring injury he suffered during pre-season with Barcelona.

He added: “I know he will improve… he has to improve his physical condition and get to know his team-mates better.

“It is a case now of looking forward with him and the other players in that position. We have to improve our build-up and play a little bit faster and Andre will help us with that.”
