Ghana's Twumasi powers Astana to crucial away win

The 23-year-old forward was the Kazakhstan champions' hero as their brightened their chances of playing in Europe's elite club competition

Patrick Twumasi scored a crucial winner as Astana secured a slim 1-0 victory over Spartaks Jurmala in their Uefa Champions League second round qualifiers at the Slokas Stadium on Wednesday.

The Ghana International put his team ahead in spectacular fashion - scoring a direct freekick from 30-yards.

The Blues and Yellows will be hoping to seal qualification for the competition's third round when they host the Latvian side in the return leg.

Stanimir Stoilov's men need at least a draw to progress and Twumasi's input will be crucial.
