Ghana international Joseph Alfred Duncan registered his maiden league goal of the season as Sassuolo and Fiorentina served a dramatic thriller in the Italian Serie A on Sunday.

The midfielder produced a man of the match performance for the Neroverdi, adding an assist to his goal, but a resilient Viola put up a late challenge to force a 3-3 away draw at Mapei Stadium-Citta del Tricolore.

The matchday 15 result has left Sassuolo ninth on the table, three places ahead of Fiorentina.

For Duncan, the game was his 10th league appearance - all starts - of the season.

After a barren first half, the Ghanaian opened the scoring for Sassuolo with a ferocious shot from outside the box into the right corner after goalkeeper Alban Lafont pushed out a cross. It was a 62nd minute strike.

The 25-year-old then set up Senegal striker Khouma Babacar to make it 2-0 for the Neroverdi before Giovanni Simeone pulled a goal back for the visitors three minutes later.

Stefano Sensi, however, restored Sassuolo's two-goal cushion with another long-range effort 10 minutes to full-time.

At that moment, the three points looked to have been packed and sealed for the home side, but there was some late drama.

Marco Benassi pulled another goal back for Fiorentina in the 89th minute. Then Kevin Mirallas scored an equaliser in the sixth minute of injury time to make it 3-3.

Duncan's compatriot and club mate Kevin-Prince Boateng could not make the matchday squad due to injury.

Italian-born defender of Ghanaian descent Claud Adjapong was also missing for Sassuolo over fitness concerns.
