Ghana will do well to win Wafu Cup, says Cobbinah

Ghana midfielder Winful Kwaku Cobbinah believes they stand the chance to win the 2017 Wafu Cup.

The Black Stars, after failing to qualify for the 2018 Chan tournament holding in Kenya next year, have been under pressure to win the Wafu Cup to appease Ghanaians.

After defeating the Gambia and Guinea in the preliminary round and opening game of Group A respectively, Ghana stand a realistic chance to make it to the semi-finals of the competition.

Maxwell Konadu's men will take on Mali on Saturday and a victory will be enough for them to become the first country to book their tickets to the next round.

''Yes, [lifting the cup] is our target and we will do everything possible to win it,'' Cobbinah said.

''It is still early days to say we are the best to win the tournament, there are good teams also in there but we will do everything possible to make sure we win it since that is our goal,'' he added.

Cobbinah was benched against Gambia but was impressive against Guinea and will likely maintain his place.

Nigeria will play Guinea in the other group game as the two countries chase their first win in the group.
