Ghana U17 coach Fabin defends WC roaster

Ghana U-17 coach Paa Kwesi Fabin says Emmanuel Toku, Danlad Ibrahim, Gabriel Leveh, Faisal Osman, Rashid Alhassan and Najeed Yakubu were dropped from a recently released 25-man squad in order to pave way for new players before a final list will be submitted to Fifa.

However, the six players, who played a crucial role as the Starlets claimed silver at the Africa U-17 Nations Cup in Gabon early this year, are expected to return to the team next week at the Ghanaman Soccer Center of Excellence in Prampram.

''We want to use one week to look at some of the new players that we have got, so we have asked the six players to stay at home," Fabin told Joy FM.

"We have given them training programs so that after one week, we can see and select the best from the new ones and send those we don't need back home. The six players left behind will then come to camp and join their teammates on Sunday so that we start the full scale preparation.

''They haven't been permanently dropped as reported in the media. In fact, they are our key players ahead of the World Cup,'' he added.

The draw for the tournament is expected to be held in Mumbai, India this week. Mali, Niger, and Guinea are the other representatives from Africa.
