Ghana Premier League midweek preview: Kotoko hoping to return to winning ways

As Asante Kotoko look to bounce back, Hearts of Oak have set eyes on a second successive win when the Ghana Premier League returns with matchday 11 action on Wednesday and Thursday.

The archrivals faced off against each other on Sunday, with the Phobians claiming a 1-0 triumph.

In week 11, they will continue their title quests on different paths.

Kotoko are seeking a prompt return to winning ways when they play away to new boys Karela United, who impressively sit fourth on the table. Following fake rumours of his sacking after the Super Clash disappointment, Kotoko coach Samuel Paa Kwasi Fabin cannot afford to stumble at Anyinase on Wednesday.

Victory eluded Hearts in three games coming into the Kotoko showdown but following the famous win, the Phobians - 10th on the log - are hoping to make it two triumphs on the bounce in their home fixture with third-from-bottom Liberty Professionals in Cape Coast. The match is one of three games scheduled for Thursday.

Now tied by Dreams FC on points, Ashanti Gold could give away the top spot after a long ride. Predictably, three points is all the Miners have on their minds as they ready to host newly-promoted and twelfth-placed Eleven Wonders in Obuasi.

To be in position to exploit any possible Ashgold slip-up, Dreams FC must beat travelling Inter Allies, who currently hold the seventh spot on Thursday.

However, third-placed Medeama claim the first position should they overcome Ebusua Dwarfs away in Cape Coast and the top two stumble. The Crabs, meanwhile, sit second from bottom on the log.

Elsewhere, Wafa, who handed Dreams a 5-0 thrashing on Saturday, will play as guests to Berekum Chelsea at the Golden City Park. The Academy Boys place eighth on the ladder, three positions above The Blues.

At the Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park, hosts Bechem United will square off against fifth-placed Elmina Sharks. On the table, The Hunters are only one position below their opponents.

And at the Malik Jabir Park, 2015-16 champions Wa All Stars and cup holders Aduana Stars will battle it out for three points on Thursday. All Stars are bottom of the table whereas the Fire Boys sit three places above.
