Kotoko v CARAGoal Ghana

Ghana coach Appiah admits Kotoko's chances against CARA are slim

Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah says it is near impossible for Asante Kotoko to progress to the next round of the Caf Confederation Cup following their ‘lackluster’ outing against Congolese side CARA Brazzaville on Sunday.

The Porcupine Warriors recorded a lone goal victory thanks to substitute Yakubu Mohammed who transformed the hosts’ fourth penalty after three were missed.

"With this scoreline, it will be difficult for Asante Kotoko to qualify. Their chances are slim but it's still quite possible for them to progress to the next stage," Appiah told Oyerepa FM.

"Ghanaians will have to pray for them ahead of the second leg so that they can record a convincing result. I have never experienced a game where five penalties were awarded and the home side missing three of those spot kicks. This is my first experience.

"Kotoko must double their efforts and should be prepared to face some challenges and frustrations in the second leg. Although, things look scarier, they can force their way through with determination," he added.

Kotoko will play CARA Brazzaville in the return leg on February 21 and the winner on aggregate will meet the winner between Tunisian side Ben Guerdane and Al Hilal Juba of Sudan.
