Ghalca boss Fianoo optimistic of successful President Cup

Ghana League Clubs Association president Kudjo Fianoo believes it is the best decision to host the 2017 President Cup in Kumasi for the first time in the competition's history.

Launched in Kumasi on Monday, Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak have been picked for the game scheduled for July 2 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium to mark Ghana's Republic Day.

The county's president H.E Nana Akufo-Addo will be the special guest of honour, with other top government officials attending, according to organisers.

"It has been a big challenge especially when we decided to host the competition in Kumasi for the first time but I think it's the best of options," Fianoo told Goal.

"Initially, people were thinking about how we will be able to have the president of Ghana and other high ranking personalities in Kumasi to grace the occasion since it would've been easy if the game is in Accra but all these issues have been fully resolved and everyone expected will be around unless there's something beyond our control few minutes to start the game.”

Fianoo also revealed that both Kotoko and Hearts have been paid $12,000 as participation fees and the two clubs will be consulted before selecting the referees for the day.

''Before we left the launch yesterday, both clubs were given cheques worth $12,000 as appearance fees and we believe it will enable them to prepare adequately.

"We don't want issues with transportation and other setbacks so we're hopeful this will help them. Also, the two clubs will be consulted before referees to officiate the game are made official.

"We want them to select their own referees to prevent issues about conspiracy and unfair treatment. Whoever they select must also be referees with integrity."
