Enugu Rangers’ Gbenga Ogunbote has revealed that the Flying Antelopes have noted some of the mistakes that led to their 1-0 loss to Lobi Stars and are working on correcting them before the first leg of their Caf Confederation Cup preliminary round fixture against Defence Force of Ethiopia.
The Flying Antelopes who are yet to get into their strides during the current pre-season activities were easily beaten by the Pride of Benue in the 2018 Super Cup played on Tuesday at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba.
The coach praised his players for ensuring that kept Lobi Stars who were the obvious fitter side on their toes for some part of the encounter and that with more seriousness put into their preparations for the tie with the Ethiopian side, they are capable of recording a good result in Enugu before the return leg in Addis Ababa.
“We have gradually forgotten about the result in Asaba against Lobi Stars. We were not 100 percent ready for that encounter if the truth must be told but the players tried their best,” Ogunbote told Goal.
“It wasn’t our best game but we were still able to disturb Lobi and it wasn’t that they strolled to the victory. We have learned our lessons and are looking at what we must do to out-do Defence Force of Ethiopia and our other opponents. We have since started correcting them and by the time we will be facing Defence Force, we will be ready for the tie.
“Lobi Stars started their preparations before us and it was majorly because we took part in the final of the Federation Cup. We had to give our players the break they deserved after we won the Federation Cup. We just started preparations not too long ago and we are working on making ourselves ready and prepared for the task ahead.
“We are making progress in our pre-season activities and our preparations for the Caf Confederation Cup with the results we have posted in our friendly games with the exception of Lobi Stars who beat us.
“We are looking forward to having an eventful campaign in Africa and also doing well in the league and in the defense of our Federation Cup title too.”
