Mubele’s goal helped Rennes to only their third win from their previous 20 league games as he continues his encouraging start to life in France.
The pacey Congolese forward has been one of the few positive stories to emerge from the second half of the season from Les Rouges et Noirs’ camp, and proved why was he signed once more with a solid showing to earn his side the maximum points.
Despite squandering numerous opportunities through the night, the 23-year-old’s persistence eventually paid off when he forced Daniel Congre into a mistake late in the second half. When the Montpellier defender slipped, Mubele proceeded into the box before curling a shot around the goalkeeper.
The Congolese international was snatched from Qatari side Al Ahli in January and has proven to be an integral addition to Christian Gourcuff’s side.
Despite the win, Rennes didn't gain any ground in the standings, and Montpellier also remain stationary in 15th with 39 points from 36 matches, whilst Rennes are 10th on 47.
