Afelokhai was unable to complete the Caf Confederation Cup semi-final, first leg tie against Raja Casablanca after he was replaced by Ikechukwu Ezenwa in the second half due to a suspected thigh injury.
Anaemena who has been quite solid for the People’s Elephant in recent matches did not also travel with his teammates to Gombe for the blockbuster fixture because of a thigh injury also in the game with Raja Casablanca and he had to finish the said game playing with the injury barrier because Enyimba had already completed their substitutions as at that time.
Ibenegbu was with the team in their group stage of the Federation Cup played in Gombe to continue his rehabilitation from the injury that has kept him out of action for close to two months but he was unable to play any of the game as the technical crew deemed him unfit to play competitive games yet.
The head coach of Enyimba, Usman Abdallah disclosed that the three players did not travel with them and that they are making do with what they have to ensure that they earn a spot in the semi-final of the Federation Cup.
“It was unfortunate that Afelokhai and Anaemena could not travel with us to Gombe because of a suspected thigh injury that they sustained in our last game with Raja Casablanca,” Abdallah told Goal.
“Ibenegbu has been out for quite some time and so we still rested him to ensure that he recovers fully. We will still continue to monitor his situation but he is not under consideration for our game with Kano Pillars. We believe that we have sufficient players that can get us the ticket to the semi-final of the Federation Cup.”
