Fandi Ahmad is appreciative of how Singapore's fans turned up to support the Lions' eventual win over Indonesia

Fandi Ahmad uttered his appreciation at Singapore’s fans for turning out in numbers after Singapore defeated Indonesia by a single goal.

“After many years we saw the fans turn up at the stadium and I must say it is a relief for Singapore football and I am appreciative,” mentioned a smiling Fandi at the post-match conference.

Singapore’s tactical discipline was its most defining quality today as it did not allow Indonesia to execute their game plan.

“We (Singapore) knew what we had to do today and we did it well. We closed down on their (Indonesia) wingers and stopped the supply.”

However Fandi is not one to rest on his laurels as he believes the Lions still have a fair bit of work to do.

“I think we have to sharpen our attack. We had three clear chances to score with Yasir (Hanapi) and Faris (Ramli) though it’s unfortunate that we did not put the ball into the back of the net.”

And with Thailand recording a big win over Timor-Leste, Fandi was quizzed on how he thinks the Lions will fare in this competition.

“I think we have to take it one game at a time. We play the Philippines on Tuesday and will need to study videos of them similar to what we did against Indonesia.”
