'Every team would want Kane' - Capello backs 'great striker' to lead England World Cup charge

Harry Kane is a “great striker” that “every team would want to have”, says Fabio Capello, believing an exciting England squad is capable of challenging at the 2018 World Cup.

The Three Lions were left sweating on the fitness and match sharpness of their star frontman after seeing him pick up an untimely knock with Tottenham.

Kane was, however, back in domestic action on Sunday in the Premier League clash with Chelsea and still has a number of games in which to return to his predatory best in time for a shot at global glory.

Former England boss Capello expects the 24-year-old to illuminate the grandest of stages in Russia, with there few forwards to be found of his calibre.

"Harry Kane is a great striker, who is important [for the team]," Capello told FIFA’s official website.

"He is the sort of player that every team would want to have. Above all, he has a good nose for goal. He doesn't wait for the ball. Instead, he moves constantly in attack to create danger.

"He is definitely a player to watch in Russia."

Kane could take the captain’s armband for England this summer, which will add to the pressure placed on his shoulders.

Capello knows all about those expectations, having led the Three Lions to the last 16 of the 2010 World Cup, but he believes the class of 2018 are ready to deliver if they can avoid burning out.

The Italian added: "For this World Cup, England have youngsters with great talent and knowledge.

"It is possible that these young men don't feel the pressure, so they might play without tension.

"A key problem, in my opinion, is that they come very physically tired to compete with teams, whose players are not so fatigued."

England have been placed in Group G at this summer’s World Cup alongside Belgium, Panama and Tunisia and will kick off their campaign in Volgograd on June 18.
