Everton v Sunderland Betting: Toffees to get season on track against Black Cats

This match is a meeting of two teams in horrendous form. Everton have lost their last four matches in all competitions, conceding 12 and failing to score in the process.

Sunderland have fared little better recently, though they did at least draw their last match 1-1 with Hull City. The Black Cats had lost their previous three games before that, with their last victory coming in the previous round of this competition against Carlisle, and a trip to Goodison Park is a far tougher prospect - however poor the hosts' current form may be.

The Toffees are priced at 3/10 (1.30) with dabblebet to win this match inside 90 minutes, and it's hard to see any other outcome. As woeful as Everton's recent results have been, they've had to face Man City, Chelsea, Spurs and Man United in their last four league matches. A visit from the team who are currently 21st in the Championship is just what they need. It's easy to see why Sunderland are priced at 9/1 (10.00) to win in normal time.

Everton also won both meetings between the teams last season by an aggregate score of 5-0. The departed Romelu Lukaku scored four of the goals though, including all three in the Toffees' win at the Stadium of Light. Who is likely to score the goals this time around?

Wayne Rooney is inevitably the favourite to open the scoring at 16/5 (4.20), but Dominic Calvert-Lewin, at 4/1 (5.00), may prove to be a better value bet. The youngster hasn't featured too much in recent weeks, and will be keen to impress.

GFX FACT EVERTON V SUNDERLAND

In terms of Sunderland, with top scorer Lewis Grabban facing a spell on the sidelines due to injury, focus switches to James Vaughan. The former Everton striker scored the opening goal for the Black Cats at the weekend, and can be backed at 11/1 (12.00) to do so again here.

Ronald Koeman is under pressure from Everton fans, and desperately needs a good performance and a win from this game. A bet on the home side to win to nil, at 7/10 (1.70), looks like a good investment for this match. If you don't trust them to keep a clean sheet, Everton to win a match with over 2.5 goals offers similar odds of 3/4 (1.75).
