Dylan Kerr: Why I rested Gor Mahia players against Kariobangi Sharks

Gor Mahia head coach has cleared the air over the selection of his match-day squad against Kariobangi Sharks.

The likes of Francis Kahata, Humphrey Mieno, Jacques Tuyisenge, Joash Onyango, George Odhiambo were missing from the team that lost to Kariobangi Sharks on penalties to exit the Shield Cup at Machakos.

“I would have loved to have my full squad, full team but it was not possible, fatigue had crept in after a long journey from Algeria,” Kerr told Goal adding, “the players were tired and needed rest, I had to give them time.

“It was not a good match at all, worst performance from my side primarily because we did not have time to prepare.”

The tactician has also urged the football administrators to consider their fixtures next time in case a team takes part in the continental assignments. “When a team performs better, credit goes to the country, it is Kenyan football that grows, and all I am requesting is that next time that should be put into consideration.”

The Shield semi-finals will be a battle between Kariobangi Sharks against Ulinzi Stars while Sofapaka will confront defending champions AFC Leopards.
