Denmark vs Republic of Ireland Betting Tips: Latest odds, team news, preview and predictions

Denmark meet the Republic of Ireland for the fifth time in just over 18 months in a crucial Euro 2020 qualifier on Friday night.

Three of the previous four matches between these two teams have ended goalless and as such, few are anticipating a classic contest in Copenhagen when the rivalry is renewed.

Latest odds

Mick McCarthy's men have made a perfect start to their qualification campaign, with single goal victories against Gibraltar and Georgia respectively meaning that the Boys in Green have maximum points in Group D.

The trip to the Danish capital, though, represents a significantly stiffer assignment than the aforementioned matches. Therefore, SportPesa offer a chunky 21/4 (6.25) that McCarthy's men pick up all three points from Friday's fixture.

Denmark are 10/19 (1.53) favourites to pick up their first win in the group. Age Hareide's men secured a share of the spoils from their opener against Switzerland by recovering from 3-0 down with six minutes left, and SportPesa offer 53/20 (3.65) that this match also ends all square.

Team news

Christian Eriksen was on the losing side in last weekend's Champions League final. Hareide's men will hope that the Tottenham Hotspur midfielder can turn in an inspired performance for his country this weekend.

Preston midfielder Alan Browne has been ruled out with a calf knock, but the 24-year-old will remain with McCarthy's squad. Bournemouth goalkeeper Mark Travers has pulled out with a fractured thumb. James Talbot and Max O'Leary have been drafted in as cover.

Goals at a premium

Ireland have conceded only once but have scored just twice in their last six matches. The Boys in Green can be backed at 3/1 (4.0) to keep a clean sheet in Copenhagen and just 5/7 (1.71) that McCarthy's men draw a blank against the Danes.

Denmark's last two fixtures have produced no fewer than 10 goals. Before that, though, 12 of Denmark's previous 14 fixtures produced fewer than three goals.

Furthermore, the Danes have kept a clean sheet in each of their last seven home matches and SportPesa go 11/10 (2.10) that Hareide's side win to nil on home soil.

Prediction

The stage, then, is seemingly set for a tight tussle. SportPesa's 31/20 (2.55) quote for fewer than two goals to be scored could well prove popular. The selection would have landed in each of Ireland's last six matches.

With a home match against Gibraltar to come on Monday, McCarthy's men will likely be satisfied should they keep things tight here. Denmark's record, meanwhile, offers plenty of reason for the hosts to be hopeful of an eighth successive clean sheet on their own patch.
