Copa Coca-Cola Bauchi regionals Wrap: Yobe pip Taraba to get national finals slot

The Postikum boys emerged Bauchi regional champions after defeating their Taraba opponents to secure the top spot and qualify for the finals in Lagos

Government Secondary School, Taraba State dreams of reaching the national finals suffered a huge setback as they were forced to a 1-1 draw by Government Day Secondary School of Borno State at the General Hassan Unity School on Saturday.

The boys from Jalingo had hope for their third win after seeing off Adamawa and Gombe respectively but Muhammed Said's early goal from the spot was cancelled by Hassan Abu-Furera's late strike. The draw sees the boys from Maiduguri sign off from the tournament with a point after four games leaving the wasteful Jalingo side with seven points from three games.



With exciting news of Taraba been held to a 1-1 draw by Borno, second placed Government Day Secondary School of Yobe State boosted their qualification quest with a hard fought 2-1 win against Government Secondary School, Gombe.

After two wins from opening two games over Adamawa and Borno, the Potiskum boys were seeking to keep their winning start intact and goals from Umar Abdullahi and Muhammed Umar gave them maximum points.

Abdullahi had put the Yobe boys in front in the first half before Umar added the second on return from recess but Abass Danjuma's goal from the spot was not enough to help the Gombe boys escape defeat. The defeat crashes the comeback dreams of Gombe, while the victory saw Yobe side overtook Taraba, who were held by Borno to climb up to the summit of the regional log.

Government Day Secondary School, Adamawa secured their first win at the Bauchi regional after defeating Government Secondary School, Gombe 1-0 on Saturday afternoon.

Having failed to win in three opening games owing to late arrival, the Yola side bowed out of the regionals on a winning note thanks to Wuspia Miyah's strike from the spot.
The victory helps Adamawa wrap up their campaign with four points, while defeat saw Gombe suffered their third loss and finished fourth on the log with three points.

Government Day Secondary School, Yobe emerged Bauchi regional champions after defeating Government Secondary School, Taraba 1-0 at the General Hassan Unity College field.

Coming into the encounter, Yobe were atop with nine points from three games, while their opposite from Taraba was second with seven points from same matches.
It was Usman Yahaya's solitary effort in the first half that sent their Potiskum based boys to the national finals finishing their campaign with four wins in four games.

The victory means GDSS, Yobe will represent the north-eastern region in Lagos later this year, while GSS of Taraba settled for the second spot.
