Winger George Lebese’s turbulent time at Mamelodi Sundowns looks to be over for the time being after he was confirmed as SuperSport United’s latest signing.

Much was expected of the 29-year-old when he initially joined Sundowns during the 2017 July/August transfer window.

However, it has been a rather disappointing spell at the club for Lebese as he has struggled to break into the starting XI and did not make a single appearance for the Tshwane giants this season.

His woes were further compounded when the club brought in Phakamani Mahlambi, Lebohang Maboe and Toni Silva at the beginning of the season, although the latter has since departed the club.

With Lebese struggling to feature at Sundowns, coach Pitso Mosimane recently confirmed that Lebese’s time at the club was up, and reports suggested that several clubs including, Matsatsantsa, Cape Town City and even Golden Arrows were reportedly interested.

Nonetheless, with only hours left until the close of the January transfer window, Sundowns’ Tshwane rivals have announced the capture of Lebese on a loan deal until the end of the season.

Lebese, who has previously stared for Kaizer Chiefs prior to his move to Sundowns, will hope to rediscover his form as he looks to help Kaitano Tembo’s team revive their league campaign.

SuperSport have won just two of their last five league games, but with the signing of Lebese, SuperSport fans will be keen to see how well he combines with the club’s top strikers in Evans Rusike and James Keene.
