Chicago Fire boss hails Accam after latest strike

Coach Veljko Paunovic says he is impressed by the contribution of the Ghana international in Major League Soccer

Chicago Fire manager Veljko Paunovic is "very happy" with David Accam following the Ghanaian's winning goal against DC United on Saturday.

The 26-year-old netted at the Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium in Washington to ensure a 1-0 win in Major League Soccer.

The victory was the Men in Red's first away win of the season and also the first of its kind since August last year.

"He’s doing very good," Paunovic said, according to his club's official website.

"We always like to say the performance of individuals has to be put in as the same performance of the group.

"Individuals will have the opportunity to score the goals and David is doing the things that we are very happy about."

In 12 matches so far this campaign, Accam has netted six times, only three goals shy of last season's tally.

"He’s gelling the team, not only in scoring goals, but also helping the team be solid when we don’t have the ball, when we have the possession," Paunovic added.

"He’s doing all the things we are asking of him… very happy with his performance."

Accam, who joined the MLS side in 2015, scored 10 goals in 24 matches in his first year, before hitting nine goals in same number of matches last season.

With his contract set to expire at the end of the year, the Black Star has rejected overtures from Fire to sign an extension.
