Champions League Betting: Premier League trio all favourites to progress after last-16 draw

The Champions League last-16 draw has been made and the bookmakers are expecting all three remaining English clubs to reach the quarter-final stage.

Manchester City were handed perhaps one of the kinder draws with Borussia Monchengladbach their opponents in the first knockout stage and bet365 make the Premier League side just 1/9 (1.11) to qualify.

Group C provided little challenge for Pep Guardiola’s men, who won five of their six games whilst conceding just one goal, and are 7/10 (1.70) to win the first leg in Germany in February.

Although Gladbach did exceptionally well to come second in a group also featuring Inter and Real Madrid, their only victories came against rock-bottom Shakhtar Donetsk and City will fancy their chances of getting past a defence that conceded nine times.

Premier League champions Liverpool are also strong favourites to progress to the next round, having been made only 3/10 (1.30) overcome RB Leipzig across two legs.

The Reds confirmed top-spot in the group with a game to spare, winning four of their first five games to nil, and are 5/4 (2.25) to take the first-leg spoils.

It will certainly not be an easy game at Red Bull Arena, where Julian Nagelsmann’s side won all three of their Group H matches, but Liverpool will be acutely aware of the fact that the Bundesliga side lost 5-0 at Manchester United in October.

Completing the trio of English teams in the knockout stages is Chelsea, who similarly eased through their group with four wins and 14 goals to their name – the highlight no doubt being Olivier Giroud’s four-goal haul against Sevilla.

They were handed Atletico Madrid in the last-16, arguably one of the toughest draws possible - and conquerors of Liverpool at this stage last season - and are 7/10 (1.70) favourites to qualify.

That said, bet365 expect the Spanish club to take the spoils in the first-leg and price them at 13/10 (2.30) with Frank Lampard’s men out at 9/4 (3.25).

Elsewhere in the Champions League knockout stages, the blockbuster tie certainly comes in the shape of Barcelona vs Paris Saint-Germain, with the French side 4/6 (1.67) to reach the next round and Ronald Koeman's side 11/10 (2.10).

The two teams last met in 2017 when the Liga side overturned a 4-0 first-leg deficit by winning 6-1 at Camp Nou, with Neymar and Sergi Roberto both scoring in injury time to secure Barca’s passage into the quarter-finals.

bet365 offer 5/4 (2.25) that there is an English winner of the competition this season, whilst Man City are 11/10 (2.10) to be the best-performing Premier League club ahead of Liverpool at 6/4 (2.50) and 10/3 (4.33) Chelsea.
