Brazil to name World Cup squad - Who will join the 15 already confirmed?

Tite will announce his 23-man squad for the World Cup in Russia on Monday.

The Brazil coach has already confirmed 15 of his 23, with Miranda, Marquinhos, Marcelo, Dani Alves, Casemiro, Paulinho, Renato Augusto, Coutinho, Neymar, Gabriel Jesus, Ederson, Thiago Silva, Fernandinho, Willian and Roberto Firmino all assured a place.

Dani Alves was the 16th player already confirmed, but a heartbreaking injury has ruled him out.

That leaves eight slots up for grabs. Juventus winger Douglas Costa is heavily tipped to join that list, as is Shakhtar midfielder Fred – both of whom impressed Tite as members of the squad for the March 2018 Brasil Global Tour clashes with Russia and Germany.

Elsewhere, there will be a nervy afternoon for a number of Brazil internationals past, present and future.

Atletico Madrid’s Filipe Luis appeared to have his World Cup dreams crushed after suffering a leg break earlier this year, but he has made a miraculous recovery. Just 52 days after suffering the injury, Filipe Luis returned to action this week and now hopes to make it as reserve left-back.

He was a mainstay of the squad during World Cup qualification, even captaining the side on one occasion.

However, Filipe Luis faces stiff competition from Juventus’ Alex Sandro, who has pipped the Atletico man to a number of recent squads.

On the opposite flank, Tite is now searching for a right-back. Fagner of Corinthians is thoguht to be first-choice following Alves' injury, but he is attempting to overcome injury himself.

Danilo of Manchester City is in contention and will be hoping his ability to operate on both sides and in midfield will see him get the nod.

In central defence, Marquinhos and Thiago Silva are now in competition to accompany Miranda, while the final reserve slot could be between Rodrigo Caio, Gil and Pedro Geromel.

In midfield, Guiliano and Diego will be hopeful of a recall, while up front Taison will be among the favourites to make up the fourth attacker - Diego Tardelli, however, is not out of contention.

Recent weeks have seen Tite’s technical staff attending a number of games as they prepare to finalise their squad, and Gremio duo Luan and Arthur also remain on their radar.

Tite will announce his 23, and a handful of reserves, live from CBF headquarters in Rio de Janeiro on Monday and Brasil Global Tour will be there to bring you all the news live.

The squad will face its first tests when the Brasil Global Tour resumes in June with matches against Croatia and Austria.
