Borussia Dortmund v Bayern Munich Betting: Bundesliga giants out to make an early statement

For the fifth time in the last six years, the German Super Cup pits the country's two biggest clubs against one another in the traditional curtain raiser to the season.

Indeed, such is the domination of German domestic football by these teams that you have to go back 12 editions for the last time that neither was involved in this fixture.

Champions Bayern come into the game after a poor pre-season which saw them lose five of the six friendlies they played against top European opposition. During those matches, Carlo Ancelotti's men managed to score just three goals and conceded 14 times.

Dortmund, for their part, have been a little erratic this summer, enjoying an excellent 3-1 win over AC Milan but losing 1-0 to both Espanyol and Atalanta.

With the first piece of silverware of the season at stake however, both sides will look to improve and Genting offer Bayern as the clear favorites at 5/4 (2.20), with Dortmund offered at 11/5 (3.20), with both prices to win in 90 minutes.

These fixtures tend to be pretty entertaining and while Bayern triumphed 2-0 last year, it was Dortmund who won in both 2013 and 2014.

Both teams to score is priced at just 4/9 (1.44) which is understandable given the attacking talent on display, yet a more promising option could be backing both to net in the first half at 23/10 (3.30).

This bet paid out in the previous meeting between the two sides in the latter stages of the German Cup in April and also proved the correct selection in their last league game then.

Indeed, both of those previous meetings were high scoring encounters and backing over 3.5 goals at 11/8 (2.37) could also appeal, while a win for Bayern with both teams scoring is priced at 13/5 (3.60)
