Premier Soccer League (PSL) giants Kaizer Chiefs have disclosed that they will announce a new head coach before the team starts pre-season training.
This was revealed by the club's football manager Bobby Motaung, who also stated they have had “more than 15” applications for the post vacated when Steve Komphela resigned last month.
“It’s normal that it should be a priority. We are working around it‚ but we are doing it properly. We’re not just in a rush," Motaung told SowetanLIVE.
The Amakhosi club official stated the team is set to begin their pre-season training‚ between the the middle and end of June.
“We’re not doing a hasty job. We are doing our work to get a proper man for the job," he continued.
Motaung also stated that they are faced with the difficult task of finding the right man to replace Komphela, who failed to win a major trophy during his three-year spell with the Naturena-based club.
“Like I say‚ it’s a process. It’s not like you can do a thumbsuck and get a coach overnight‚” he said.
“I think the process is unfolding. We will make announcements soon. It’s not just waking up and appointing a coach. There are a lot of factors when you are considering a coach," he continued.
“We’ve got our own deadline but we’re not making announcements on that. Because then we are under pressure with the media‚ and with everybody asking," he explained.
“The process is unfolding. We will make announcements as and when we are ready to," he concluded.
Serbian tactician Nikola Kavazovic‚ Belgian trainer Luc Eymael‚ French coach Patrice Carteron and Israeli mentor Avram Grant have all been linked with the Chiefs coaching job.
Amakhosi will participate in next season's Caf Confederation Cup which is scheduled to start in December 2018.
