Betting Special: Manchester City expected to lead the weekend's FA Cup scoring

With several big-names already crashing out of the FA Cup, the bookmakers are taking no chances with Manchester City.

bet365 offer just 5/4 (2.25) that Pep Guardiola's side go all the way this term and the market principles are also Even money (2.0) favourites to score the most goals in the fifth round.

It's understandable to see the star-studded squad at the front of this market given that they are just 1/20 (1.05) to get the better of League Two side Newport County, who don't appeal even at 100/1 (101.0) to top the scoring charts.

Some punters may consider the Evens (2.0) in this market a way to side with City dominating proceedings instead of a match-based option such as the -2 goal handicap line - which is just 8/15 (1.53) - or over 3.5 City goals at 5/6 (1.83).

The visitors blew away Burton Albion 9-0 in the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final earlier in the campaign and although they won't have home advantage in this game, their vast array of attacking options is tough to ignore against a side from the fourth tier.

With a Champions League game against Schalke to consider in midweek though, it remains to be seen if Guardiola's side will look to run up the score if they're comfortably ahead at any stage in the match at Rodney Parade.

Each way betting is available so even if City justify their short price at the head of the market, picking out the runner up would be a profitable exercise.

Crystal Palace are second in the betting at 9/1 (10.0) as the Eagles visit Doncaster Rovers (66/1) having beaten Tottenham 2-0 in the previous round.

Watford (14/1) get the weekend's action underway on Friday night as they make the short trip to face QPR (40/1). With that in mind it's essential that any punters wanting to get involved do so before the action gets underway at Loftus Road.

The same 14/1 (15.0) is available on Brighton who will have home advantage against a Derby County (50/1) side who may have one eye on their Championship promotion charge.

Chelsea are 14/1 (15.0) too as they host a Manchester United (25/1) side who will be without Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial through injury.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer may see the FA Cup as a huge opportunity in terms of his full-time managerial prospects at Old Trafford but his attacking options are somewhat depleted and changes are expected from both sides on Monday night.

Maurizio Sarri is under plenty of pressure at Stamford Bridge after some dismal domestic results but Chlesea have a solid record in this competition, having contested each of the last two finals, edging out the Red Devils 1-0 at Wembley last May.

Wolves are 16/1 (17.0) to score the most goals of the round as they visit a Bristol City (66/1) side that have won their last nine games in all competitions on Sunday.

bet365 have set the total goal line for the weekend at 22.5 with 10/11 (1.91) available on either side. With replays scrapped from this point forward each tie will be settled on the day with extra time and penalties being played if required. It’s worth noting though, that only goals scored in regular time will count for the purposes of this market.
