Liverpool have made an early statement on their title ambitions by completing the biggest move of this summer’s transfer market in Mohamed Salah.
The winger, signed from Roma for a fee that could go up to £43 million, finally secures his move to Anfield four years after the idea was first mooted.
Liverpool have made the splash in the transfer market to answer manager Jurgen Klopp’s request for a goalscoring winger, and Salah surely ticks all the boxes adding firepower to an exciting looking attack.
The 25-year-old has been priced up by bet365 at 4/1 (5.0) to score 15 or more Premier League goals - surely something within the capabilities of a player who terrorised Serie A defences on a consistent basis.
Salah first made a name for himself at Fiorentina but it was under Luciano Spalletti at Roma that the Egyptian grew into a force to be reckoned with. Sharing creative duties with Radja Nainggolan behind Edin Dzeko, Salah was urged to begin taking charge of scoring more goals and become more single-minded in his play. The transformation has been stark.
He can expect to play a similar role, notching his own goals and setting up his team-mates, under Klopp. Virtually guaranteed a starting place in an attacking trident alongside Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane, and supported by Philippe Coutinho deeper, Salah will find no shortage of ammunition at Anfield.
That makes the odds of 4/1 (5.0) on the former Basel talent to shine in his Premier League return unmissable. While strengthening the depth of the squad and particularly the full-back positions remains the priority over the remainder of the summer, Liverpool could legitimately expect to be in the running for the title.
The Reds, who finished fourth last season, are 12/1 (13.0) to be crowned champions, 10/11 (1.91) for at least another top-four finish and 9/4 (3.25) to land a major trophy in the campaign they are also back in the Champions League.
Their chances of silverware will certainly be helped by the presence of an impressive forward line and particularly the signing of Salah, whose goals and growth into a key player will surely be fundamental.
