Chelsea v Manchester City Betting: Vulnerable defences set to produce another goalfest

Comments
With the Blues looking less defensively solid, Al Hain-Cole is not expecting any shortage of goalmouth against when Guardiola's team visit west London

After their shock defeat against Crystal Palace, Chelsea will be looking to reassert their credentials as champions elect when they welcome Manchester City to Stamford Bridge for Wednesday’s heavyweight Premier League showdown.

Antonio Conte’s men dropped all three points for just the second time in 23 league fixtures on Saturday, but are 11/8 (2.38) favourites with Betfair Sportsbook to bounce straight back with a big win in this one.

Having gone down 3-1 at home in December’s reverse encounter, City are on offer at 21/10 (3.10) to exact revenge by coming out on top in West London.

The visitors were held to a third consecutive league draw at Arsenal on Sunday, and you can get odds of 12/5 (3.40) on them being forced to settle for a single point in the capital once again here.

While the upset against Sam Allardyce’s men came as a surprise to most, in retrospect it seems the signs were there that Chelsea have not been at their invincible best in recent fixtures.

Although unbeaten in eight league fixtures leading up to the Palace clash, the runaway leaders had not kept a clean sheet since mid-January, and have conceded in each of their last eight.

With the division’s second best defence now looking rather less impregnable, Pep Guardiola’s free-scoring side should fancy their chances of finding some joy in front of goal.

Nevertheless, having demonstrated their persistent defensive vulnerabilities once again versus Arsenal, it is hard to imagine City coming away unscathed when they take on a strikeforce that has failed to score just twice in 37 fixtures this campaign.

With a free-scoring game therefore looking likely, odds of 4/5 (1.80) cannot be missed on over 2.5 goals going in for Chelsea’s fifth consecutive league games, and fifth in a row against this opposition.
