The Bundesliga leaders could welcome back their World Cup-winning goalkeeper in April, while a knock to a star midfielder is not considered serious

Manuel Neuer's injury nightmare is seemingly nearing an end, with Bayern Munich coach Jupp Heynckes confident the goalkeeper will return to action in April.

Germany's number one has broken his foot three times in the past 12 months and made just three Bundesliga appearances this season before undergoing surgery in September.

Neuer began the final stage of his rehabilitation in Thailand recently, though, and his gruelling fitness work appears to be paying dividends.

Heynckes was asked by ZDF if the 31-year-old will return in April and the veteran boss provided an upbeat response.

"The prospects are positive, it's looking good," he said.

Neuer's return would be a boost for a Bayern side that are still in the hunt for a treble this season having progressed to the last eight of the Champions League with an 8-1 aggregate victory over Beskitas on Wednesday.

Germany coach Joachim Low will also welcome the news, with Die Mannschaft set to begin the defence of their World Cup title against Mexico in June.

Another of those who will be hoping to challenge for global honours in Russia this summer is Spain international Thiago Alcantara.

The midfielder picked up a knock against Besiktas in midweek continental competition, but the problem is not thought to be serious.

Thiago scored Bayern's opening goal in a 3-1 victory over the Turkish champions that booked a place in the quarter-finals of the tournament.

A man who has been restricted to just nine Bundesliga starts this season due to various injuries limped out of the action before half-time after appearing to take a blow to his foot.

Heynckes, though, has confirmed that Thiago's substitution was merely a precaution.

"Thiago has signalled that he felt pain under the sole of his foot," Heynckes said.

"We have to wait for the investigations tomorrow, but I do not think it's that serious."

Thiago himself indicated in a social media post the problem is not likely to rule him out of action for an extended period.

"It was pleasure to see two of the best crowds at the same stadium," he wrote on Twitter.
