The Cranes were stunned in a preparatory game ahead of their fixture against the Black Stars but their coach has played down on the defeat

Uganda coach Moses Basena insists that they have picked the positives from their 2-1 defeat against Madagascar in an international friendly on Wednesday ahead of their penultimate game against Ghana in the 2018 Fifa World Cup qualifiers.

The Cranes sit second in Group E with seven points, two points behind Egypt, and are in a dire need of three points against the Black Stars on Saturday at the Mandela Sports Stadium in Namboole, to qualify for their first Fifa World Cup.

''The general performance was good only that those lapses when you don’t concentrate defensively teams at this level will definitely punish you,'' Basena told the media.

''We didn’t defend very well on the right flank but it's a wakeup call to everyone [ahead of the game against Ghana]. This encounter was a training game so the match on Saturday will be a different one,'' he added.

The Black Stars, who have been camping in Kenya, are expected to arrive in Uganda on Thursday.

Aside the Ayew brothers, who were not invited by Kwesi Appiah, Ghana will be without captain Asamoah Gyan, Harrison Afful, Jonathan Mensah and Christian Atsu due to injuries.
